Live Life by Intention, or…

live it by default. I have heard it said that if you are not living your life by intention, then you are seducing it, manipulating it, and/or settling for whatever shows up by default. Continue reading only if you want a really fulfilling life.

I am on my way to being the 90 year old who is living a marvelous 90 years so far, still eager for more. While some 90 year-olds have lived the same year 90 times. Give yourself over to the Love of God (The Universe) and you will live a magical, even mystical life. This is no simple task when you think about it. But do it once successfully and it becomes a lifetime of easy surrender.

At 35 I wanted to run 5 marathons by the time I was 40 years old. I completed my 5th marathon when I was 41. Was I a loser because I didn’t meet my goal? Of course not, because I forgive everything!

what do you want?

People often come to me seeking clarity, guidance, and maybe even someone to tell them what to do. And in turn I simply ask this question: “What do you want?” As one articulates their heart’s desire in any area of life, whether it be love, work, or money for example, my job is in helping them realize that these ‘wants’ have been placed in them by that which created them. And if this be the case why would we not give ourselves over to its creative manifestation? Ok, a bit woo woo I know, but keep reading and see if it doesn’t soon make sense.

I ask the question “what do you want?” at the beginning of every Discovery Call. Invariably the response is as clear as (ready?) mud. I say this against the measure of the clarity I have come to know is necessary for making things really happen in life. Most often folks are clear about what they want in a general sense, and may make a general statement for it, but the clarity I speak of is missing. This is when I step in.

be specific

A few easy examples can be “I want to go to college” or, “I want to get married and have kids some day.” And from the moment that desire is said and believed actions for studying harder or dating begins. Good start, but what might happen for us if we approach life in an even more specific way? “I want to study to be an architect.” And in middle school and high school you take all the necessary math courses to get you into a prominent School of Architecture. Or “I want to marry someone who appreciates education, is patient, kind, physically fit, good looking, generous, and a good listener.” You get my point?

The Universe loves you. And, the Universe loves specificity. That is why you are you, and not somebody else. Learning to listen to your uniquely gifted heart’s desires requires you: 1. take the time to reflect upon who you are and where you are; 2. inspect life for what you have and where you want to go; and then 3. inject it with the creative love which guides and conspires everything around you to support you towards your dream. So the method is reflect, inspect, and inject. This is the starting point for living life intentionally.

Ask any architect and they will tell you “the taller the structure the deeper must be its foundation.” So if you want to build a big life you have got to dig deep and have a strong foundation for yourself. You must have a foundation built upon integrity. I teach a 12 week Personal Foundation Program which helps people clean up their lives in order to build really big lives. And I also teach a 12 week Dream Builder Course that helps folks understand the spiritual process of living your life’s dreams, while determining if your dream is even worthy of you.

How to reflect (start here) – ask yourself the following questions: What shape is my life in? Do I feel loved and supported? Am I making plenty of money or am I struggling financially? Is my home clutter free, well appointed, and reflecting of my personality? Am I taking enough time to have fun and just play? Am I learning and growing as a person? Am I in touch with spirit? Am I as healthy and fit as I can be? How is my work life? Am I fulfilled in my work? What would I rather do instead? Do I want to start a business, make more money, or retire early? Answer these questions and you are breaking ground for a bigger and better life.
